Volunteering with children in Costa Rica

I had the opportunity to volunteer at "Club A" in Liberia, Costa Rica while attending Spanish immersion classes at Instituto Estelar Bilingue. Each week the Estelar staff, along with any students wanting to volunteer, visit a small community outside of Liberia for their 1-1/2 hour learning program for 70-90 local children. The main goal of "Club A" is to interact with the children and teach them English. The children are divided into 3 groups (by ages) and rotate between fun activities such as yoga, origami making, relay races, practicing math problems, repeating English and Spanish phrases, etc. During my visit, the children learned the English phrase, "I help my friend" and participated in a blind-folded relay race helping their friend complete the race. A side note is that this village does not have running water (they were starting to install the water pipes when I was there in June, 2019) so I am sure their time at Club A is very important to their sense of well-being. Golfito Marina Village, a megayacht marina

Working with the management team of Golfito Marina Village and Resort (as a local realtor in Golfito) since the groundbreaking event in June 2014, I have seen the project take shape from the beginning. As construction progressed in August 2016, I worked onsite full-time handling whatever needed to be done! As sales and marketing manager that included all of the commerical leases in our shopping center, real estate design and presales for the future villas / condos, developing the websites for La Playa Beachfront Restaurant, Paka Paka Beach Bar and Golfito Shoppes, creating all social media / directory accounts and coordinating local activities. In June 2018, I was promoted to general manager to lead our team of 33 employees in our 6 business units (120-seat restaurant-bar with catering and provisions, 85,000 gallon fuel station, convenient store, 10-store shopping center, full-service 50 slip marina, real estate presales for villas and condos). We received super-yachts (200-350ft) and many customers, filmed a promotional video and hosted dinner for the President of Costa Rica in our new restaurant.

Community Volunteer as Cruise Ship Passenger Tour Guide

Located in southern CR and only 342NM from the Panama Canal, the town of Golfito is one of the few locations in Costa Rica with a 1,000 ft. dock and immigration/customs office. Because of this, Golfito receives many cruise ships, US Coast Guard ships, scientific research boats (National Geographic), yacht transport ships and palm oil transport ships. In December 2017, I volunteered a few times with the local chamber of tourism (CATUGOLFO) and greeted visiting cruise ship passengers on the main pier to answer their questions about the area or accompany them on a tour of Golfito. VISIT THE COSTA RICAN TOURISM BOARD (ICT) WEBSITE. One group of my visitors especially enjoyed seeing the spheres located at the Costa Rica Guardacosta Office in the American Zone area of Golfito. Southern Zone Beach and Golfito Park Clean Up

Our team volunteered at two local community events during the summer of 2018. OSA ECOLOGY organized a large event where over 100 volunteers helped clean up multiple beach areas along Golfito Bay, Golfo Dulce and the Osa Peninsula. IGY MARINAS holds their annual volunteer day on June 9 where 30 members of the Golfito Marina Village staff helped clean, make repairs and paint the local park in Golfito town center.
